Trying a new cocktail can be a pleasant and interesting experience. Whether you are on one of the lively party buses New Orleans or enjoying a quiet evening at home, here are three cocktails to try.
1. Margarita
A classic margarita is made with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice and can be served either frozen or on the rocks with optional salt on the rim of the glass. Many bars offer a “skinny” version of this beverage that contains fewer calories by either using less sugar or artificial sweeteners. Especially popular in Mexican restaurants around the United States, the margarita is widely regarded as the most popular cocktail in the U.S.
2. Bloody Mary
The bloody Mary is a unique cocktail that is popular during brunch. Consisting of a base of vodka, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and various spices, food items such as olives, pepperoni, and celery are often added to the drink, making it somewhat of a meal rather than just a drink. One variation of the bloody Mary is the bloody Maria, which contains the same basic ingredients save for swapping vodka out for tequila.
3. Manhattan
This strong drink consists of whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. Common types of whiskey used in a Manhattan include rye and Tennessee whiskeys. This cocktail is named as such because it is thought to have originated at the Manhattan Club located in the respective New York City borough. There are several variations of this drink including the blonde Manhattan made with moonshine and the dry Manhattan mixed with dry vermouth rather than sweet vermouth. If you order a Manhattan, it will usually be served in a cocktail glass and garnished with a maraschino cherry.
Whether you have a sweet tooth or a taste for a stronger drink, most bars and restaurants will be able to help you find something you enjoy. Start by trying one of these three cocktails.
